Managing Table View Queries in Mainsaver
Challenge:
Many times when the Table View of a particular Mainsaver module is opening, there is a long if not never ending list of Table View Queries that may be presented in the Query drop down list, making finding useful queries a major task. When this is the case, these queries have usually been created as Global rather than personal queries by current or formal Mainsaver users. This then results in query lists that are unmanageable and ineffective. This Tech Tip defines the procedure for cleaning up the query lists and preventing recurrence of this issue.
Methodology
Step 1 – Delete Unused Queries
- Open the Query builder in a Mainsaver Module by clicking on the “Define Query” button on the Table View screen.
- Click on the “Query List” button to display the current list of queries. If the query name is shown with black letters, this means it is a global query. If it is shown in green, it is a personal query.
- Identify those Global queries that are not valid or should not be part of the Global list.
- Select the query to be deleted by clicking on it.
- Click on the Delete Button, then the OK button to delete the query.
- Repeat until all non-pertinent queries are removed.
Step 2 – Adjust Security to Prevent Recurrence
- Open System Administration and go to Application Switches > Default Tab.
- Make sure the “Default Predefined Query Type” is set to Global. This will cause all users queries to be defaulted to a Global Query type when they are created.
- Exit the Application Switches
- Open up Application Security under the Settings Menu
- For each User group desired, select the “General” module settings on the left, then adjust the 3 global query settings on the right to allow or deny future access to the global query creation, editing, and deleting.
Benefit:
Cleaning up the Query Lists will allow for a more effective and productive use of Mainsaver.
